Here are the expectations for the second paper over the kidney lab. We will follow the same basic outline as the last paper. Again, you are expected to have an abstract/introduction, materials/methods, results, and discussion session. Also, you are required to incorporate the past 2 yearıs results, plus your lab into the data. You may need to normalize your data to fit the 1 hour time interval between the time you drank and the time you actually urinated. Also, make sure you say the differences between the previous 2 years and this year (i.e. using yourself as a control, the % salt in the Gatorade, etc.
Remember to cite all sources. You must have graphs with all three years data. Think of a meaningful way to represent each year data and compare it against one another. Make sure that you reference your graphs within your body of writing. Use common sense and think about what alcohol and caffeine do the pH and specific gravity. Find previous data on the internet that shows mechanisms or explanations for a higher or lower pH and specific gravity.
I will be grading these lab reports much harder than the first. Based on my comments from last report, you should have an idea of what I want. Have a clear and concise explanation of the process that is meaningful and packed with great information. Make sure that every sentence has relevant data. I think the best way to do well is to have another person in lab proof read your paper. They will point out errors or material that needs to be added. Again, if you have any question, feel free to call me or email me.
